REBUILDING YOUR FUTURE

A charity working for spinal injuries to rebuild you from the ground up.

REBUILDING HOMES

A catastrophic accident not only affects a person’s physical and mental state of mind, but it also affects their ability to stay in their home. Being able to remain in your own home after an accident is a vital building block for rehabilitation. This characterises ‘Rebuilding Homes’ as such a monumental piece of the puzzle.

Joseph observed many people waiting for social housing and/or having to sell their homes due to inaccessibility, and identified a real need in society to adapt people’s homes. Joseph realised the absolute urgency of being able to support vulnerable people who have no home to go to or no funds in order to adapt them. Quad-Rebuild’s adaptations are provided free of charge through the charity.

REBUILDING YOUR FUTURE

Throughout the rehabilitation process, there are countless obstacles and challenges that a person may have to overcome. ‘Rebuild Your Future’ aims to support individuals in the community.

Accepting the way their life has been changed, supporting them in public facing scenarios such as; shopping, eating out, pubs, clubs, holidays in the UK and abroad, plus socialising with others affected with a spinal cord injury to help them gain confidence no matter the setting.

REBUILDING LIVES

Rebuilding lives is part of a scheme where trained mentors attend hospitals and offer support to patients. The idea was developed at a critical time in Joseph’s rehabilitation, having to deal with extreme physical and mental lows whilst being hit with continuous difficulties of learning how to look after his new body with no sensory feelings.

The mentor programme will help to provide inpatients with a clearer understanding of what to expect whilst in the spinal unit. Developing new methods of looking after a part of your body that you can not feel takes time and recognition to understand new sensations. Quad-Rebuild aims to offer peer support which is bespoke to each person.

REBUILDING YOUR IMAGE

After an accident, a person’s body goes through a lot of changes. Rehabilitation is about learning all about a spinal cord injury and the effects that it has on a person’s body. Being able to look in the mirror and be at peace with the person looking back at you is an extremely difficult transition to go through.

We aim to support people through their journey, to help them understand how to deal with the loss of movement and their ability to take care of themselves. For people that want help, Quad-rebuild aims to support individuals that want to change the way they feel about their appearance in a wheelchair.

FAMILY SUPPORT

The impact Joseph’s accident had on the family was devastating. In the beginning, there was a lot of uncertainty and very little support. It was a very scary and emotional time.

Through Joseph’s lived experience, we at Quad-Rebuild have the experience to provide emotional support to families, by listening and giving advice where we can. It is important for families to understand the clinical competencies which stand in the way of their loved ones having the ability to care for themselves.

Spinal cord injuries are complex and difficult to understand unless you have acquired one or work in the industry. We are here to bridge that gap to help understand and comprehend what your loved one is going through and support your needs as well. You can read about his experience in full in Joseph’s book, ‘Living With A Spinal Cord Injury – My Life As A Quadriplegic’
